Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a hands-on therapy of Japanese origin (Shi means fingers and Atsu - pressure) when pressure is exerted by the practitioner with your thumbs, fingers and palms of hands through the patient's skin to allow the patient to remain healthy or to get back to good health.

Shiatsu was recognized as "therapeutic" by the Ministry of Health of Japan in 1955:

"Shiatsu is a hands-on technique that uses thumbs, fingers and the palms of hands, without any mechanical instrument or otherwise, to apply pressure through human skin in order to promote and maintain health, correct an internal malfunction or treat specific diseases."

Shiatsu is one of 8 alternative approaches identified in resolution A4-0075/97 of the European Parliament voted on 29 May 1997, as a "worthwhile unconventional medicine".

Alain Mathieu

Mr. Alain Mathieu is a "Shiatsu-Shi" (the second "Shi" means practitioner).  He first experienced the discipline in 1977 and launched his career after graduating as a Physiotherapist Masseur (1978) in Japan in 1981 as a live-in student.  He graduated from the School of Shiatsu-Koho in Japan.

He has practiced in France since his return and his reputation is already well established in West-Central France.  Alain is Co-founder of the EFKS, The French School of Koho-Shiatsu, the IEMTJ, The European Institute of Traditional Japanese Medicine and the UFPMTJ, The French Union of Practitioners of Traditional Japanese Medicine .

Alain now has a new office in Jonzac, a Spa town, since 2009.  He offers special plans for guests visiting the Spas (usually about 3 weeks) and also treats patients throughout the region.
